Join a unique carving holiday at the renowned carving and sculpting school Geisler-Moroder in the beautiful Lech Valley in Tyrol. Enjoy a week in the mountains combined with instruction and training in carving and sculpting. You will be introduced to 600 carved models graded according to their difficulty. Alternatively, you may develop your own ideas under the expert tuition of our professional staff.
Day 1 / Sunday May 21th Depart from the United Kingdom to Munich airport. Plan your flight so that you reach Munich about lunchtime. You will be met by David Andrews at the airport in Munich and get on the transfer vehicle to the picturesque Lech Valley. Check into your room in our cosy guesthouse and spend some free time before you meet your tutor and have the first introductory talk in the classroom.
After a pleasant dinner, some time to relax and recover from the trip.
Day 2 to 7 / Monday to Saturday - May 22nd to May 27th Full day class, Monday to Friday and on Saturday until lunchtime. Lots of time to learn, explore new ideas, get to know other carvers and much more. Under the professional guidance of our renowned tutors you have the opportunity to learn a lot of new techniques and to develop your knowledge. No matter if you prefer to carve a relief or a figure, a modern or classic carving – you will always get the best possible support from the school. Beside the practical carving class you should also take advantage of the theory on offer. On a need to know basis you can join in the theory classes with a focus on all important aspects of wood carving and sculpting. Sharpening methods, modelling, drawing, proportions and much more are taught in conjunction with the practical classes. We provide all the tools and other equipment necessary.
During the week there will be several other programmes offered beside the course:
Don’t miss the Village walk on Tuesday evening – showing you all interesting cultural highlights of the village. Walk in the footsteps of Queen Maria of Bavaria (mother of King Ludwig) who used to spend her summer holidays in Elbigenalp and left several interesting legacies behind.
On Friday you can join a visit to the government carving and sculpting school, here 50 to 60 young students at the age of 14 to 17 years old, are educated to become sculptors. Their course lasts 4 years.
A tasting at the small local Schnapps distillery “Lechtaler Haussegen” will be organized on one of the evenings – here you can try all different kinds of homemade Schnapps. It might be a good idea as gifts for home.
On Saturday, after Lunch we will, depending to the weather, either make a visit to the hanging bridge in Holzgau, 200 meters long and more than 100 meters high or to our new local museum in Elbigenalp. Farewell dinner in the evening after an intensive week of working and learning.
Day 8 / Sunday May 28th - Fortified by a good breakfast buffet, we’ll start our way back to the airport. and your flight home.
