Combined course: Chessboard and chess pieces

Intarsia work and woodturning

Target Audience:

Chess fans and people with a little manual skill who want to create their own chess set

Content:

Dive into an exciting combination of two areas of traditional craftsmanship: marquetry and woodturning. This weekly course is divided into two parts:

Inlay work for the chessboard

In 2½ days, the course instructor will introduce you to the fascinating technique of marquetry and inlay work. Learn how fine pieces of wood are carefully selected and inlaid to create a unique chessboard that captivates with its artistic details!

Turning the chess pieces

In this part of the course, you will turn your own chess pieces. You will start with the basic shape and develop it further to emphasize the individual appearance of each piece, which is then finished with simple carving techniques. The number of pieces you make in the course will depend on your speed and skill. With the help of our course instructor, you will create your own individual chess set as a functional work of art!
